5 Clarifications On Three Wheeled Buggies

Three Wheeled Buggies

Three-wheeled buggies are great for walking around the neighborhood or for jogging. Their compact design allows them to be maneuvered easily, even in tight spaces.

For a smooth ride, go for a pram with air-filled tyres and look for models with an swivel wheel that rotates 360 degrees in front. However, they are susceptible to punctures so be prepared with an repair kit.

Frame made of sturdy material

Recent figures have been released that show that the three-wheeled buggie - that noughties symbol of more money than wisdom is in a decline. Four-wheelers have replaced them, which are more versatile and easy to drive while still looking stylish.

The idea is that the bigger the wheels are, the easier it will be for your buggy to cope with bumpy and rough pavements. The larger wheels, both front and rear, make it easier to maneuver and more stable while walking downhill or on difficult terrain.

MFM reviewer Kath tried this buggy out with a newborn as well as a 3 year old and found it was able to withstand grass, cobbles rough pavements, dirt tracks and kerbs. Kath said that "it is solid to push and extremely solid when you're on rough terrain. Its tyres (which are inflatable so need periodic pumping) have suspension built-in that was very comfortable for my children.

The size and shape of the seat is another aspect to think about. You will want it to be large enough for your child's comfort and you will also need it to recline to allow them to lie flat. Some three-wheel buggies offer a full lie-flat option while others will only allow a parent facing one.

The Roma Atlas is a great option for off-road and muddy walks. This buggy is ideal for a single child starting from birth and can be modified to accommodate two children as your family expands. It is suitable for infants and toddlers from birth until age 4 and comes with a bumper with a rain cover, an upgraded 5-point harness, and a big cushioned seat. The storage options are great as well, with a large basket, zip pockets inside the hood, and an easy-to-access pouch on the back of the seat unit.

Larger wheels

Larger wheels mean that your buggy will be more stable on rough terrain - ideal for buggies that are off-road. They also allow you to maneuver the pushchair through narrow spaces. Some three-wheeled buggies feature wheels that swivel on the front to assist you in navigating tight corners. Others are designed to run and have fixed wheels that lock for greater speed and stability. This is particularly useful when you hit a tree or a kerb. The front wheel can be lifted slightly to prevent hitting it.

A majority of 3 wheel pushchairs come with air filled tyres which means they can handle many different terrains and are more adaptable than 4-wheelers. They are also lighter. However, they are prone to punctures, so you'll need to keep a repair kit, spare inner tube and pump in your bag.

Our top 3-wheelers include the Mountain Buggy Core and Venicci Carbo Lux. These buggies, according to MFM's Kath, have larger wheels, which she claims "perform well on gravel roads, grass and market town cobbles" and are able to go up or down kerbs. They also have a suspension that, according to Kath "smooths out bumps with great efficiency".

The downside of having bigger wheels is that they make buggies quite large and may struggle to squeeze through narrow spaces. This is an issue if you plan to are using it as a jogger, or need to fit through doorways that are narrow while on the move. Most models come with small folding options that allow you to remove the front wheels and store them in a more compact manner.

Easy to Manoeuvre

One of the main benefits to a three-wheeled buggy is that it is much easier to maneuver, especially with a child on the way. The way they are constructed means that the front wheels turn at a whim and are extremely maneuverable which makes them perfect for tricky terrain like cobbles, parks, bumpy pavements and dirt tracks.

MFM reviewer Kath tried a 3-wheeler with her infant and toddler and stated: "The Terrain was a delight to maneuver on the terrain with the swivel rear wheel being particularly helpful. I was also impressed by how well it dealt with the kerbs, particularly when using the hand-operated brake. I found it to be extremely steady when I was driving downhill or over uneven ground."

The only drawback to this incredible maneuverability is that the larger wheels of the 3 wheel buggy might make it difficult to squeeze into tight spaces. This is something you should be aware of when your home is one of the cities. If this is an issue, a 4-wheeled buggy may be the better choice for you.
